Walking back along the long corridor, I suddenly saw a large courtyard. Ladies and gentlemen, now we see that this garden is the famous "Baicaoyuan". Although the name Baicaoyuan is elegant, it is actually an ordinary vegetable garden. It was a barren garden shared by more than ten households in Xintaimen at that time. They usually planted some melons and vegetables, and used them to sun rice in autumn. During his childhood, Lu Xun often played and frolicked with his friends in Baicaoyuan. In summer, he enjoyed the cool breeze under the shade of trees, and in autumn, he caught crickets in the mud wall roots. In winter, he would catch birds in the snow.
Did Lu Xun once visit the Hundred Herbs Garden? From Baicao Garden to Sanwei Bookstore? This famous essay provides vivid and vivid descriptions. In the article, he wrote with infinite affection: "Not to mention the emerald green vegetable beds. Smooth stone well railings, tall soapberry trees, purple red mulberries... Just the short mud wall around them, there is infinite interest." The Bai Cao Yuan we see today is the scenery described by Lu Xun in his writings.
