whether there's afterlife, the answer has never been the same.the atheists deny after life, believing that our life is no more than from thecradle to the grave. they may care about their illustrious names after death;they may feel attached to the affection of their offspring, but they never laytheir hopes on their afterlife. they may also say that good will be rewardedwith good, and evil with evil, but they don't really believe any retribution intheir after life.
however, in the religious world or among the superstitious people, thebelief in afterlife is very popular. they do not only believe in afterlife, butthousands of reincarnations as well. in the mysterious world, there are theparadise and the hell, the celestial beings and the gods, the buddha and thebodhisattvas.
maybe they really believed it, or maybe they just wanted to make use ofpeople's veneration, the ancient emperors always declared that they were thereal dragons, the sons of god, while the royal ministers claimed to be thereincarnations of various constellations. but can the stars reincarnate?

20 years ago, Wang and Xiao, two passionate junior high students, dared to dream, dared to act. Wang loved Michael Jackson’s dancing, and Xiao was addicted to playing guitar.
The two then formed a band, hoping that one day they could get on the stage and perform.
However, the reality has always been unsatisfactory. On the path of realizing their dream, the two suffered countless setbacks---from the fickleness of the world to conservative ideas of the society, from employment pressure to marriage pressure, and worse still, the rising of prices.
After 20 years’ torment, they compromised to the reality---Wang is now a barber, and Xiao is a wedding host.
Yet one day, they got to know that there was a talent show Happy Idol. They could not stop thinking of their original dreams of performing on the stage. And eventually they decided to participate.
This time, the two old boys, realized their dream. Once again, Wang played the guitar and sang. Xiao danced with preoccupation. The song they sang is a beautiful elegy to youth, a lament for all the things the post 80’s have lost along the way.
As was sung in the song, “dreams are always out of reach. Should I just give up? Have you realized your original dream? Or can we only mourn he present circumstances? Life is like a heartless chisel, changing our appearances. Must I wither before we blossom? I used to have a dream.”
This is the story in a hot online movie named The Old Boys. The movie has touched the hearts of almost all Chinese netizens, especially the post 80’s and 90’s. It makes them realize that, from the very beginning, we should choose to follow our heart, and follow our dream.
Robert frost wrote in his famous poem The Road Not Taken, “two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”.
In our life journey, we sooner or later will have to face the two spurroads. One leads to dream. The other leads to reality. Wanting wear, the dream road is grassy yet winding. The reality road, however, has been terribly trodden.
Why?
It’s because people are always struggling for the reality, having no time to fight for their dream.
Take the post 80’s generation as an example.
If you ask what their dreams are when they were kids. They might give you answers like becoming a scientist, a politician, or a great businessman. However, if you ask them now what their dreams are. They would tell you that they want to buy a house, a car; they want to have a secure job, a moderate income.
I got a question: where is their original dream now?
Actually, in face of the huge pressure from the reality, they have set aside their dreams.
Confronted with the college entrance exams, they spent 12 years in the ocean of papers. At last still not everyone could be admitted to their ideal university.
Confronted with the rising of house price, they will have to spend almost their whole life to earn a house.
Confronted with the pressure of raising family, they strive on their post day and night. When they go back home, tired with fatigue, they have no energy at all to think more about their original dreams.
It takes young people their whole life to fight with the reality. Meanwhile, their original dream fades out as well. Even if they have the passion, it still would be worn down by the pressure from the reality.
Living such a fail-fail life, how could one possibly get the real happiness?
How should we do then?
The dream road and the reality road diverge at the very beginning, and as the two roads extend to the distance, they would become even farther apart from each other.
Thus we need to make our choice at the very beginning: to dream, or to struggle with the reality.
I would say to young people that, it’s time for us to discard the pressure from the reality and follow our dream. It’s time for is to unburden our load and go to our Walden Ponds. It’s time for us to undertake the career that we have been dreaming of.
The housing price is high. So what? We could still choose Dwelling Narrowness.
College entrance exams are cruel. So what? If it really unfits you, then skip it and establish your own business.
Your girlfriend refuses to marry you simply because you have no money to buy a house. So what? I would say that she’s not the one deserves your love.
Stop hesitating, young people. If today is the last day of your life. You’ll know what to do! For the sake of not letting yourself regret when you grow older; for the sake of not letting yourself regret that the pain you have suffered does not pay you back any true happiness, please choose to follow your dream.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I-I took the dream road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

“Diane, can you speak a little louder, please?” That’s what my teacher said to me on the first day of school. I almost burst into tears as so many students turned to watch me sitting down in the corner that belonged to me. After school, my teacher found me, smiling, she said: “You don’t have to be afraid of anyone. People just want to know about you so the next time just let them hear what you have to say. After so many years, I am still a shy person as I was fifteen years ago but the difference is I am not any more afraid of letting people know about me, hear about my ideas.
People, as we are, are never isolated individuals. We all live on the planet where lives all the other people as well. So keeping oneself excluded would never work, or else we would always be trapped in that little corner of ours. We have to step into the world as we are in fact part of it.
I’ve always remembered what Simba said to her daughter: we are one. So what’s to be afraid of? Since human beings are virtually linked souls. Just tell others what we really think, how we really feel. Even if we do have the wrong idea, we will have the chance to correct our mistakes. And if we don’t, it’s all right.
But if we never spoke our mind, we will never know what we are missing out in this world. We will never know what we can actually make of ourselves. And we will never know what is needed to live a life with other people. When there is giving, there is receiving. That’s how the communication circle works. We are all very blessed to have so many people hear our voice. So don’t refuse the blessing for life is based on it. Just remember when the world knows more about us, we know more about the world.
So today, can you hear my voice?"

On March 14th, 20xx, professor Stephen William Hawking passed away. His contribution to inflationary cosmology has forever shifted our understanding of the universe. He wasn’t just a physicist for England, but for all mankind. His death marks the end of an era. He has passed the baton to a new generation of minds, to a new era. The exploration of nature waits for no man. So, are we ready to embrace the new era and new challenges?
When I was a kid, professor Hawking was known to me as the author of A Brief History of Time. I bought a lot of science books back then, but they were really difficult to understand. Whenever I stumbled, I would turn to my physics teacher for help. We would go through pages and pages of materials together, whether it was middle school stuff or Feynman’s lecture from Caltech, sometimes hours on end. I felt like we were tearing off the mask of nature and staring at the face of god. It was his guidance that encouraged me to study physics today. We’re living in an era in which science is embedded in people’s lives. From teachers who pass on knowledge, to construction workers who build labs; from organizations that provide funding, to scientists who conduct research, we all contribute to science in our own unique ways. We the people say we’re ready.
On October 5th, 20xx, China finally had its first Nobel Prize in natural science. Ms. Tu Youyou’s work and her receiving the most prestigious science award made us proud. We’re living in an era in which China is building some of the best research projects and institutions worldwide. Just a month ago, Professor Zhang Miman won the UNESCO for Women in Science Award, making her the fifth Chinese recipient of this honor. A week after that, The Economist referred to China as “a continent-sized rapidly growing economy with a culture of scientific inquiry”. Physicist and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Science, Dr. Zhang Jie stated, “China now has the most accurate, sufficient and largest amount of data; China has the highest, fastest and best ability of data analysis. The Chinese government will be strongly pushing for the sharing and utilization of data resources.” We as a country say we’re ready.
Science is an immortal topic of mankind. We’ve come this far because we’ve learned to work together and let the ideas evolve. The dispute over the completeness of quantum mechanics, for example, was resolved in the 5th Solvay conference, attended by 29 physicists from 10 different countries who have won 15 Nobel Prizes combined. That was almost 100 years ago. Now we’re living in an era in which information is transmitted at the speed of light, in which “International cooperation” is not just a slogan anymore, especially to the scientific community. Chinese Academy of Science now has 47 partners overseas. The International Council for Science now includes 122 national members, 23 scientific associates and 31 scientific unions. The facilities of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, are available to over 600 universities and institutes around the globe. We, the world, are more than ready.
We’re all made of particles that have existed since the beginning of the universe, I’d like to believe those particles traveled through countless eras to create us, so that we, the people, China, and the world, can stand on the shoulders of giants, march into the new era with our head held high, and make people like Professor Hawking proud.

A Scene to Remember
Gu Qiubei
Shanghai International Studies University
Advisor: Gong Longsheng
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
Today I would like to begin with a story.
There was once a physical therapist(臨床醫(yī)學(xué)家) who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census(調(diào)查) about mountain gorillas(大猩猩). These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching(偷獵) and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled(擁抱) their babies.
Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Dian Fossey, who spent most of bet lifetime in Rwanda to protect the eco-environment there until the very end of her life.
To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless(永恒的) reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.
Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur---natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal. Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica. Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks.
All these appalling(令人震驚的) facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding(侵蝕) our resources. Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 20xx the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our eco-environment.
Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations an: receiving donations--big notes, small notes or even coins--from housewives, plumbers(水管工人), ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and invalids(殘疾人), Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care, because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them.
This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish.
The other night, as l saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to some- thing else, someplace else. a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer.
And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's lime for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.
Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. Dian Fossey be- cause it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our eco-environment that we are taking our next step into the world.
And no matter who we are what we do and where we go, in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it. Thank you very much.

Ladies and Gentlemen,It’s an honor for me to be here to make a speech.. Hope you enjoy a wonderful time! First I want to say is here my topic, which is how to make my class active and interactive.
Actually , when I stepped to the 3-foot platform to be an English teacher , I tried my best to make my students practice the patterns time after time , I hoped that they would get high marks in test .However , my students didn't care about it , they showed less attention to my class.
Until one day, a student had a talk with me. He said : ”I’m learning many things that are boring, useless and not valuable. So I’m tired of studying. Miss Ma , can you understand me? ”At that time, I felt my class was lack of active and interactive patterns.
Then I gradually found that make class active and interactive is from active learning to interactive teaching.
First , we should be energetic and encouraging .Because our passion can make class want to learn English, they will act with nature and show more potential abilities. Also,we should praise in various ways. In our class we often say “good, very good”, the simple word not only make them active in class, but also foster their sense of achievement in future learing..
Secondly, we should make class meaningful and creative. In class, we can use the short and simple sentence, use the body language to communicate with students .We should give students clear purpose and offer them opportunities to try, to create and allow them to fail. Make sure the class relaxing and interactive, be familiar to the feeling of English language.
Coming up next is organizing games and activities .You know, activity is the key part of class. Including paired work, competitions, role play, guessing game, TPR activities, and so on. Whatever I use , I should often change the way. From students and I; student and student ;to students and students. Make all class.
The last but not the least is helping the class feel comfortable with asking me questions and answering my questions. To do this, do not criticize any questions from students .This will insure that students will continue to ask questions. Do give more chance to students ask and answer , make students and ourselves learn interactively. So after class students can listen, read, write, think without force and pressure, keeping interests and motivation .
This is my talk from my experience, sharing with you today . Thank you for your attention!

Goodafternoon, ladies and gentlemen,My name is ,coming from school of Chengdu xishu experimental school.I am very glad to give my speech to you here, the topic of my speech is "Just Do It".
"Just do it!"I think everybody is familiar to this sentense about Nike, a very famous company of shoes.
In my opinion, it means that just do it if you want. Today I'm here, just want to do what I want to do, and just have a try.
Just do it if you want.
In fact, we have many things to do in a day, in a year and in all our lives, it depends on your choices .
Just do it if you like.
I was attracted by English on my first sight in primary school. My English teacher always had the class interesting and she has a nice voice,it's comfortable when I heard her singing songs. As the time flew I knew more English songs .
Just do it no matter whether you can be successful.
When I asked others that why they didn't join in the competition, was it the reason that they didn't like English or they had no time. To my surprise, they almost gave me the same answer, "even though I couldn't get a rank in it, I needn't to do that, what's more, I didn't want to lose my face because of failed."I really can't believe that in their dictionary there is only one word 'success'. Although I don’t know whether I can enter the final fighting or not, and maybe I will be out of the competition after this speech, I still come here, just do it, no matter how far I can walk.
So as long as you want and like, just do it by heart, no matter whether you can succeed or be failed.
That's all,Thank you!

to me march 28th was a lucky day. it was on that particular evening that i found myself at central stage, in the spotlight. winning the 21st century?ericsson cup seventh national english speaking competition is a memory that i shall treasure and one that will surely stay. more important than winning the cup is the friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and the chance to communicate offstage in addition to competing onstage. also the competition helps boost public speaking in china, a skill hitherto undervalued. for me, though, the competition is a more personal experience. habitually shy, i had been reluctant to take part in any such activities. encouraged by my friends, however, i made a last-minute decision to give it a try. in the course of preparation i somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.
i found that, after all, i like communicating with other people; that exchanging views can be so much fun―and so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that public speaking is most effective when you are least guarded; and that it is essential to success in every walk of life. at a more practical level, i realized knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally important. to take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind. this ability improves with training. yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion in the process. those ideas that finally find their way into another head need to be recognizably yours. language is a means to transmit information, not a means to obstruct communication. it should be lucid to be penetrating.
in china, certain public speaking skills have been unduly emphasized. will it really help, we are compelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have come with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness to truly share your views?
above all, the single most important thing i learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and foremost, to the content of your speech. and second, the structure of your speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another. only after these come delivery and non-verbal communication: speed control, platform manner, and so on. pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: is your language competent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be understood? i was informed afterwards that i was chosen to be the winner for my appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and quick-witted response. in so remarking, the judges clearly showed their preference: they come to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters.
some contestants failed to address their questions head on. some were able to, but did not know where to stop―the dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence. the root cause was that they did not listen attentively to the questions. or they were thinking of what they had prepared. as i said in my speech, it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking ... to take them [issues like obalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. we need to respond honestly.
a competition like this draws talented students from all over the country. and of course, i learnt more things than just about public speaking. since in the final analysis, public speaking is all about effective communication. and this goes true for all communications, whatever their setting. and the following is the final version of my speech: globalization: opportunities and challenges for chinas younger generation thirty years ago, american president richard nixon made an epoch-making visit to china, a country still isolated at that time. premier zhou enlai said to him, your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world―twenty-five years of no communication. thirty years since, china and america have exchanged many handshakes. the fundamental implication of this example is that the need to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but many other nations as well.
as we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism. peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world. underlying this mighty trend of global communication is the echo of e. m. forsters words only connect!
with the it revolution, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshed into one large melting pot of humanity. in this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. we have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure. china is now actively integrating into the world. our recent entry to the wto is a good example. for decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. from a precarious role in the world arena to our present wto membership, we have come a long way. but what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. are they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? insteadof narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about a common interest in every other nations economic health. we are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. this has become a reality. multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy. they are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses. for china, still more challenges exist. how are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions that concern us all. like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international community. but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech.

What Is Real Beauty?
It is human nature that all of us should be fond of beauty. Everybody was born with a heart for beauty. Today in China, with the rising of our living standard, people's requirement of beauty has been heightened accordingly. Some people spare no money or energy on beautiful clothes, fashionable hair styles, the decoration of their houses and even the improvement of their looks. But it seems to me,all these are more or less confined to the beauty in appearance,or rather, the outward beauty. In my opinion,we shouldn't only pay attention to beautiful appearance and neglect the beautification of the mind and what we are after should be the perfect unity of the outward beauty and the inner beauty. As we all know,so far as objects and animals are concerned, there is only beautiful appearance to be mentioned, but to us humanbeings, although the outward beauty really matters, the inner beauty is much more important. This was confirmed by a famous Russian writer in words much like this: “A person is not lovely for being beautiful but beautiful for being lovely. ”
Here, I'd like to quote two typical instances and I'm sure, my dear friends, from them you'll find out what real beauty is. Recently I learned from the radio an unpleasant incident about a well known singer. She is very charming with a sweet beautiful voice and very famous for singing the song.“Devotion of Love”。 Not long ago,she was invited to Zhejiang Province to give performance. The moment she was to appear on the stage, she suddenly asked for more reward. Worse still, after her request was satisfied, she didn't begin to sing at once. Instead, she took her time to count all the money piece by piece. Thus she kept the audience waiting for half an hour. So when she at last showed up and started to sing “Devotion of Love”,a man rose up from his seat and shouted at her,“You don't have any devotion of love. You are not qualified to sing this song ! ”Hearing this, the singer stopped singing and began to shout abuses with her finger pointed at the man. At this time the whole audience burst into an uproar. How disappointed her keen listeners were when they learned this! It is the singer herself who spoiled her beautiful image in the eyes of others.

What is a smile? Some people say that the expression is the heart. I think that smile is a heart, is a strong It is a detached charm; smile is a grace, it has a warm and friendly, with acceptance and caring, with tolerance and open-minded with a relaxed and optimistic. Therefore, in working and living in a smile treat everyone around them has become my greatest wish. I smiled through every day.
Every day, I smile, I love the education of students. Early in the morning, accompanied by sun, we are ushering in a group of group of students, they have lovely, and some naughty naughty, some clever, some wood satisfied, ... ..., no matter who, no matter what he is from the family, No matter how his performance, I smiled and treat each of them.
Mischievous and occasionally also to blame, because of deterioration and while the loss due to discipline, but the office really does not keep ideas and personal considerations, the children will really be you, bit by bit to see their progress, you will more to bloom broad smiles on their faces.
Normal years, no matter what kind of class, as a teacher, guides the efforts of the children's mental and physical immersion in between the lines, so that high-spirited children from the passion straightforward, and so it goes, teachers and students do not stress and worry, so naturally, such a statement to the words to, so that the soul of the teachers and students mingled with the class as What is Education?
His seventeen years of education told me that education is a dynamic process of human spiritual encounter and dialogue. Education is looking forward to that education is in hand, education is the clarity, education is exciting, full of education with regards to the truth, education filled with smiling faces. The face of my students, I would like to smile every day.
Every day, I smile, to live together with my colleagues. People encounter is a margin of its own. Moreover, today, we have a common cause to come together, how can we not smile to cherish? Smile is the spring water from the bottom of my heart, the soul of a tacit understanding friends, and strangers is to shorten the distance.
In November, I bid farewell to each other overnight partner, leaving the plants in the chest clear Xinzhuang Town primary school, went to a new collective --- a small aircraft to China. Lonely? Regret it?
When friends heard of the sorry and asked with concern, I always smile to tell you: all could hang good! School teachers and soon familiar, it's a sincere heart to the smiling face of a sincere life, in the face of work: Every day, we smiled and talked about the cause of the school, the school's development, all other schools; a smile on the shuttle classrooms, inter-office, even though every day seems to have endless things busy, but its music also fills the air with warmth! I am happy, I smile.
Every day, I smile to face itself. I think that there is no heart murmur smile flow, there will be no free and easy life. ,Functions, regardless of how high or how inconspicuous impressive, I do not have the time ecstasy, nor dismissive of secretly laughing, I smiled frankly accepted the blessing of his companions.
I know that school is my lucky love, duty and destiny of the appointment is lucky, I have to smile thanks to all! Difficulty comes, I have discouraged, but also thought of retreat, but in the end I was the courage to meet the challenges of a smile, because I believe that with a smile the face of suffering, then tomorrow, if you will like the bright smile today. Nevertheless, every day, every day, I also can not own them smile?
Teachers with a sincere smile treatment of students, to treat themselves, to treat everyone around you, we will have a life unmatched beauty and free and easy. Let us hope that smiled torch, go together like a glorious tomorrow, let us smile, the life of a brilliant show shine. Dear teachers, please let a smile every day!

When I was still a freshman in college, one Scottish professor complained to me about being overcharged at a grocery store. He explained that many business owners in China would assume that white “foreigners” are rich and unable to understand Chinese. My amiable professor, unwilling to start a conflict, would always pay the undue price even though he was only meagerly paid by my university and was able to speak perfect Mandarin.
As a student of humanities, I’m particularly intrigued by the ramifications of cross-cultural encounters entailed by the new era. We have to bear in mind that whenever we talk about the new era, there is always an old era that keeps haunting us in various ways. Last year I went to the University of Tokyo for a one-year exchange program. Before I left, my grandma seemed quite distraught and apprehensive: she told me to take care of myself as if I was about to go to the battlefield.
But we Chinese are not the only ones infested by outdated misconceptions. When I was bidding farewell to my American professor at an academic writing class in Japan, she stopped me and asked me, “Are you really from China?” At first I thought she was pointing at my handsomeness, asking me whether I had been to Korea for plastic surgery. Well, clearly this is another stereotype that we should get rid of. But to my disappointment, she was actually referring to my English skills. “I’ve never met any Chinese student who can talk and write like you do,” She said, “You must have been stayed in the States for some time, haven’t you?” It does seem that even a specialist in linguistics can’t escape the illusion built up by the last generation of Chinese students: gauche and diffident, unable to articulate themselves in English.
Nevertheless, such stereotypes are becoming a thing of the past. When professors around the globe meet with an increasing number of students from China with both language proficiency and academic competence, well-qualified students will no longer be a surprise. Moreover, with more people going abroad and enjoying firsthand encounters with different cultures, people like my grandma will no longer be subject to the fossilized, antiquated narrative of the past. The interesting thing is, after I told my grandma my experiences in Japan, how clean, safe and beautiful their cities are and how nice, polite and considerate their people are, she gladly removed Japan from the list of least-want-to-visit foreign countries and put it instead to the most-want-to-visit one.
Even the shop owner near my campus is now repenting for his peccadillo. When gradually more international purchasers become his patrons, he would no longer treat them differently. And he would even occasionally call out for them, yelling “come, come,” “cheap, cheap,” “thanks thanks” with a very strong Chinese accent. Meanwhile, my Scottish professor has now equipped himself with Wechat and Alipay, assimilating seamlessly into the local life here.
The old era is like a cocoon, protecting us from possible dangers outside and providing us with warmth and comfort. However, an overreliance on memories and experiences of a long-gone past can also hinder us from genuine, meaningful interactions for the future, just as the cocoon can also serve as a wall to bar us from the beautiful world outside. But in order to make a brand-new attire or to build a modern silk road, we have to plunge the cocoons into hot water and obtain the silk despite the pain. So ladies and gentlemen, don’t be trapped by the old era. Transcend it, and embrace the new one.
Thank you.

good afternoon, honorable judges, dear teachers & friends.
i'm lai senhan from the university of international busine& economics. do you know what date is it today? today is the olympic date. i'm so glad to stand here today to share my idea about beijing olympic games together with you all. the title of my speech is: what can we do for beijing olympic games?
first of all, let me tell you a story that happened 2 years ago. at the end of august, , when i decided to come to beijing for study, my friends hel ewell party for me. they said: after your graduation, you should look for a job in beijing, and then in , we shall go to visit you during the olympic games. i laughed and answered: ok, no problem!
time flied and 2 years passed. now i am a graduate. my teachers and classmates always ask me: what's your plan after your graduation? go back home, stay in beijing, or go to some other places? and i always answer: i will stay in beijing. i make this decision not because of my promise to my friends 2 years ago, but because: i've fallen in love with beijing! i'm eager to welcome the coming olympic games together with my fellow countrymen, and i wish i could do something for the olympics & for the city.as we know, beijing will host the 29th summer olympic games in 20__. as a chinese, i think many people are thinking: what we can do for beijing olympic games. most of us are not athletes, we cannot take part in competitions directly; we are not officials either, we don't need to do the preparatory work. we are only ordinary people, what we can do.

In Calaveras, California, there lived a man whose name was Jim Smiley. Jimenjoyed betting somuch that he would bet on anything. If anyone said goodmorning to him, he would bet themthat it was not a good morning. Whenever therewas a horse race or a chicken fight, Jim wouldbet on it. He didn’t care whichside he bet on, as long as he had a bet.
One day, Jim showed a frog to a stranger who had just arrived in
Calaveras, and bet thestranger forty dollars that the frog can jump farther and faster thanany other in CalaverasCounty. The stranger said he didn’t see anything about thefrog different from any other, and ifhe had a frog he would bet Jim. Jim lefthis frog with the stranger and go out to find a frog forthe stranger. Meanwhile, the stranger took out a bag of gunshot, forcing the frog’s mouthopen and pouredthe shot into it.
Soon Jim returned with a frog for the stranger. The two frogs were put onthe floor, and theneach man gave his frog a push. The stranger’s frog hopped offsmartly. But Jim’s frog just satthere, unable to move an inch. Jim had nochoice. He gave forty dollars to the stranger, whotook the money and startedaway. Jim picked up his frog, and found it extremely heavy. Heturned it upsidedown, and the gunshot came out. He knew he had been fooled and, like a madman, started running after the stranger.
As he ran, he passed one of his friends, who asked him where he wasgoing.
"To catch a thief!" shouted Jim. "No matter how fast he may run, I'll catchhim. I'll bet you fivedollars!"

“Globalization is a conspiracy.” my South African friend, Nuhu, once told me. I was in a shock while he explained, “It’s a game that we’re forced to play by the rules set by the superior westerners.” And by learning about the drive of the original globalization, the primitive accumulation of capital, I’m convinced that enough is enough. The unequal, violent exchange should have been enough since a long time ago.
However, what we do see today is that China has risen up by selling our products around the globe and learning advanced technology from others. And Africa is also believed to be the next China, another economic hub in the near future. So, although this might be an unfair game to play like what Nuhu claims, what he fails to see is that globalization is the very ladder for nations, especially those at the bottom of the global hierarchy to climb up. This win-win globalization is not enough. We can have more of it.
But what is the backlash? We have been fearing that the tide of globalization, the outpouring of western values will undermine our own. So when the global stage is not hearing a lot from the Chinese culture and not to mention the African culture, I guess Nuhu is onto something. The globalization that amplifies some cultures while extinguishing the others should have been enough since the very beginning.
And yet that’s not the whole picture. We see that our traditional works like Sun Tzu’s Art of War being worshiped by businessmen around the globe makes us start to relook at it and appreciate it again. And the Nobel Prize awarding for Moyan’s literature leads us to reflect on the development of our villages. So in the past, only we, Chinese people protect and pass on Chinese culture; but now, the international scholars, professors or even just ordinary people all over the world who get interested in our culture are preserving it. The uniqueness not well-protected by us transforms into the diversity universally-respected by global citizens. It is because of globalization that China and its culture are truly on a global stage.
So globalization is actually an on-going process that keeps surprising us while startling those worries and fears. It’s a dynamic system that we should look for ways to utilize and enhance.
But with the Brexit and the success of Trumpism, it seems major countries are all shifting away from globalization. But just because they are slowing down, making turns and adjusting themselves instead of peddling up, it doesn’t mean they are going for anti-globalization.
We are at an unprecedented point where the world becomes ever so connected that we need to figure out the boundaries and balance between censorship and openness; sameness and differences; patriotism and global citizenship. It’s the best time that every nation should seek for a better role to play in the globalization where we should continue to make improvements on.
It’s very understandable for nations to panic and make changes but we should never quit for it’s clear to us all that globalization is the only way that we seek for co-prosperity.
Globalization is not a conspiracy planned already, but a beautifully unfinished song to be written by us all.
Enough is SO NOT enough.

英語比賽演講稿19
Ladies and gentlemen,I'm Choco, from 14CPA Canada.I'm here today not just for winning the speech contest, which is amazing enough, but more importantly, the topic fascinates me so much.As a member of AIESEC,an international organization for university students famous for global citizen program,I'm proud to help lots of students go out of their countries to be global volunteers,to make friends with peers all around the world,to experience other culture,to make a little change in local society, above all,to develop a sense of global citizenship. We all have firm belief that there shouldn't be walls between nations.Conflicts occur because people know little about each other, misunderstand each other. If human society has a bright future in peace, there have to be more people with the sense of global citizenship,to share the natural rights together and take responsibility together. Because this is one minute for self-introduction,I just briefly introduce myself in this way: I am a global citizen.China is my bedroom where I usually live, the world is my real home.
【Main part】
I'd like to use the answers to three questions, which is what, why and how, to deliver my speech today.First of all, what are global citizens? We are people who place our indentities with global community above our identities of a particular nation. In other words,we are not abandoning our nationalities or our hometowns, but we have stronger belongings to the globe. We are concerned about every global issue, never less than those in our own countries.
There comes the second question. Many people will ask:" Why do you feel like that? Why do you think more people should feel like that?" Let's look through human's history and there lies the answer. From then to now,it's not difficult to find out that most civilizations have more things in common than differences. We all develop languages, complicated social structures,art,science,commerce,philosophy...Undeniably,we did have wars, but it turned out that there were no winners or losers. We all suffered from the same pain.Families died in battlefield, and houses were detroyed in shells. While in peace, all of us enjoy safe environment and economic growth. Our histories are linked, and so is our future. Everyone of us desires being well off, democracy, cultural prosperity, clean air and water. We all hope that our kids can grow up safe and sound, don't we? Since we share the same feelings, the same hope, humankind is essentially one.If you think that's too big.Let's come down to current situation.Economic globalization is the trend that no one can stop.Investment comes from every corner of the world, and different markets are tightly connected.Cooperation is needed if everyone wants to live better off. Moreover, issues of global level are more noticable than before:climate change, financial crisis, women's right, children's health...Without the sense of global citizenship, no one is willing to sit down and settle down the problems together.
Now move to the last question: how to become a global citizen? As a saying goes:To see,to understand, then to change. One of my friend in AIESEC went to Karachi,Pakistan this winter.Never had she thought that she could see a MacDonald restaurant and hear songs of Taylor Swift right after getting off the plane. What she saw was people living their normal life in the so-called City of Death.Adults going to work, students going to school, just like what we're doing here, although a bullet may fly above their heads the next second. She was also impressed by youngsters in Pakistan, who showed courage, faith and confidence to create a bright future for their country. Not just panic and depress can survive there as the news reports, but also the seed of hope is sprouting.Another friend of mine in AIESEC is from India. His name is Kunal, and he regards himself as a global citizen. He joined AIESEC in India, where he met his lifelong lover,a blonde Russian girl in a local project. When he went to the university of Copenhagen,he joined the AIESEC committee there as well. Now,he is in Canada, running another AIESEC project called Green Power Now,giving advice to the government about environmental protection.Young people like Kunal are changing the world now, with their experience, ability, ambition and the name of global citizens.
My speech is almost finished according to the three questions, but traditionally, speakers have to quote something so today I'd like quote a song by John Lennon. The name is Imagine.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning! I’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. Man’s life is a process of growing up, actually I’m standing here is a growth. If a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for me. When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Following I will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job. Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process I will combine learning with doing. If I can achieve this “future”, I think that I really grow up. And I deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in the future. How to say future? Maybe it’s a nice wish. Lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

once upon a time there , deep do, leaving a long trail of blood behind him. then the fisherman got up and an. "no," said the man. "an, "you did catch him, and then you let him sething. she doesn't e," said the flounder. "she already has it."
the man ables and fruit.
"look," said the an.then they ate something and went to bed.
everything went well for a week or two, and then the woman said, "listen, husband. this cottage is too small. the yard and the garden are too little. the flounder could have given us a larger house. i would like to live in a large stone palace. go back to the flounder and tell him to give us a palace.oh, wife," said the man, "the cottage is good enough. why would we want to live in a palace?"
英語比賽演講稿23
someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of abook, whose pages are infinite”. i don’t know who wrote these words, but i’vealways liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it tobe. we are all in the position of the farmers. if we plant a good seed ,we reapa good harvest. if we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
we are young. “how to spend the youth?” it is a meaningful question. toanswer it, first i have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” youthis not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. it’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. it’s the matter of the will. it’s the freshness of thedeep spring of life.
a poet said “to see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. severaldays ago, i had a chance to listen to a lecture. i learnt a lot there. i’d liketo share it with all of you. let’s show our right palms. we can see three linesthat show how our love.career and life is. i have a short line of life. whatabout yours? i wondered whether we could see our future in this way. well, let’smake a fist. where is our future? where is our love, career, and life? tellme.yeah, it is in our hands. it is held in ourselves.
we all want the future to be better than the past. but the future can gobetter itself. don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. from thepast, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. we’ve learnt thatwe can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. failure doesn’tmean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way.failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.
as what i said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of thefirst chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. the past has gone. nothingwe do will change it. but the future is in front of us. believe that what wegive to the world, the world will give to us. and from today on, let’s be theowners of ourselves, and speak out “we are the world, we are the future.”
